What can RAWsumer do for you?

Photographer Stephen Alvarez makes a good case on why RAWsumers can be a good alternative for specific assignments, instead of a big old DSLR.

New RAWsumer is out: Panasonic FZ35 (aka FZ38)

It is party time in RAWsumerVille as we have had now TWO brand new RAWsumers in a 24-hour window! Just announced and not only that, but also just reviewed (!) is the brand new Panasonic FZ35/FZ38, the follow-up to the FZ28!

So not only was the camera announced today, but also it got a full review at Photography Blog. Look for a dozen RAW samples at the bottom of their "Sample Images" page! You can get them and evaluate and post-process them as you please. They are .rw2.

And if you are in a complete hurry, or in-between meetings, here are the conclusions.

We will have detailed coverage of this as well at the main blog later todai...

UPDATE: We have just finished the FZ38/FZ35 announcement round-up, and there you will find not one, but two, yes TWO completed reviews of the camera (!). Enjoy :-)

List of Sigma DP2 reviews has gone live

The list of Sigma DP2 reviews has now gone live at the main blog, and it has also been added to the Fixed-Lens Review Organizer, right next to the Sigma DP1 review-list!

If we missed any reviews, please let us know and we will try to add them as soon as possible!

If there are any other RAWsumers you would like to see review-clusters created for, please let us know!

The reason we have all the review-lists at the main-blog is to make it easier for people to jump from one camera to another. We used have different reviews at different blogs and it was quite painful to jump from one to the other to find them all.

Two Sigma DP2 reviews in the last 48 hours

It is raining Sigma DP2 reviews Foveon fans! First up, Steve Huff, a photographer-style (experiential, not pixel-peepiential) reviewer has spent two weeks with the Sigma DP2 and has shared his findings in his new review.

Next up, the Imaging Insider spotlights a CNet-style review of the DP2, this one created by Rod Lawton at CNet UK. Yes, CNET is everywhere, and now that CBS bought them, you may find one in your backyard ;-)

As you can see from the above reviews, the DP2 is taking a beating, but also getting a lot of praise. Neither one of the two reviewers above are "Foveon converts", so each one could be a good test-case of how a photographer (Stephen Huff) and a tech-junkie (CNet) might perceive te camera.

And some good news for DP2 fans, it will be one of the next cameras that gets a review-cluster at the Review Organizer.

A third Sigma DP2 review at TOP

One more Sigma DP2 review at the Online Photographer, this time by TOP himself. This is a short-type of a review, so don't brew a whole pot of coffee.

Equally interesting to the review itself, are the dozens of comments at the bottom, coming from all directions, from Sigma loves to Sigma haterz and everyone in-between.

Fuji S100fs and dynamic range

Another interesting discussion about the Fuji S100fs is under way in the Fuji dpreview forums, where the OP starts by talking about the dynamic range of the S100fs. The camera uses a 2/3" SuperCCD sensor, which is larger than all the current fixed-lens digital camera models, except of course for the Sigma DP-series.

Sharpening Fuji S100fs pictures

An interesting discussion in the dpreview Fuji forums is discussing sharpening Fuji S100fs pictures. Photoshop needed. You can also download the action the OP is using and try it for yourself!

The Fuji S100fs [reviews] is the Fuji giantsumer with an 11mp 2/3" SuperCCD sensor and a big lens to go with it that was announced in January 2008. The best price we found among the reputable retailers at the momnent is $500 at B&H Photo. As you may recall, it used to sell for around $450 at Amazon a few weeks ago, but apparently Amazon itself (not 3rd party sellers) has sold out - maybe temporarily, maybe for good - you can't really tell.
