Olympus SP570 collage of user reviews

Digital Camera Review has assembled a a collage of user reviews posted on the Olympus SP570uz and organized them together in a new blog post. Unlike the new SP590 who does not have RAW, the SP570uz is a RAWsumer.

A quick reminder, because Olympus released the model numbers out of order. First came the SP570, then the SP565, and then the SP590!

(OVER) Foveon wants you: Sigma DP1 for $398

Update! The price has jumped higher since the original post. The original post follows unaltered:

If the "Curious George" inside you is screaming for a Sigma DP1, now you can make him happy for just $383 $398, because Amazon.com itself is offering the DP1 at that price. No rebates, no gimmicks! This is offered by Amazon herself, not by the other marketplace vendors!

15-second nightshot with the Sigma DP2

The Imaging Insider has just posted a 15-second night sample picture taken with the Sigma DP2 at the ATL Botanical Garden. And as a bonus they also have a night-time photo taken with the E-P1, which of course is not a RAWsumer, but it can become one if you (or Olympus) glues the lens on to it :-)

And they have also posted a video that recorded the sound of DP2 focusing.

The Sigma DP2 meets a female model at 1.75m

DC Watch has just posted a long series of photos taken of a female model at 1.75m with the Sigma DP2 digital camera. Why the height is mentioned? Because the photographer wants to make a point of how he used the 41mm lens that is glued to the Sigma DP2.

You can make it happen: Sigma DP2 vs Olympus E-P1

The Olympus E-P1 has taken the photography world by storm, but can it "handle" the Sigma DP2 in a one-on-one shootout? There's one way to find out, convince Olympus and Sigma to get a camera to Serious Compacts so they can post one of their customary shootouts!

You can find out how to convince Sigma and Olympus at the aforementioned SC page!

Casio EX-F1 computer-control enters the US market

The news from Japan two weeks ago that the Casio EX-F1 was getting computer-control functionality are now being announced in the US market by Casio. You can read about it at the ALC, Imaging Resource and such.

The problem of course with the Casio EX-F1 is its price. It came out at $1000 and it is still at $1000. When it came out, there was no DSLR-Video. Now there is DSLR-Video and there is Micro-Four-Thirds-video. And let's not forget that initially Casio did not allow (!) the sale of this camera online. Now that's a brilliant move for the 21st century.

But regardless, the pricing is guaranteed to keep the EX-F1 as a micro-niche product, even though, at least in our opinion, price-aside, this is a promising move by Casio, with a modest 6mp 1/1.8" sensor and a reasonable 12X IS lens. And yes, RAW support of course, which is why we are talking about it here :-)

Fuji E900: some sample pictures

The E900 is one of the old-school RAWsumers, it came out in 2005. So how about some real-world pictures taken with the E900, and shared in the dpreview forums.

Many have wished that Fuji follow up on the E900, both with a more advanced and a more compact type of a camera, but sadly Fuji has ignored us all :-(

LX3K in-stock at B&H Photo (two custom kits)

The standard kit has now (Wedn June 10, 3:53pm eastern time) sold-out, but the two B&H custom kits remain in-stock. Details on those at the main blog in-stock alert.

Original Post
This time the camera has managed to stay in-stock for more than a few hours. Maybe it's the price, maybe the supply has increased, we do not know. But if you want the LX3K and don't object to the $500 price, you can get it from B&H Photo for that price plus shipping and handling.

The price and availability is as of the time of writing of this blog post and can certainly change at any time! This post is not updated magically!

The Olympus SP565uz is a RAWsumer

While writing about it at the Camera Deals blog, as its price has now dropped to $244, we realized that the SP565uz was not included in our list of RAWsumers.

As you may recall, in typical press-release-FAIL, it wasn't clear whether the camera had RAW when it was announced in August of 2008. Eventually it came out that it sure did have RAW, as shown in this review at Steve's Digicams.

So now we have rewritten history for 2008, and added the Olympus SP565uz to our list of RAWsumers, ranging from 2002 to 2009. Sadly not a whole lot of RAWsumers in 2009, but a healthy total of fifteen in 2008!

It has also been added to the reverse-chronological-order list of RAWsumers in the middle column of every page of this blog. Look for the orange block that says "Meet the RAWsumers".

The Kodak Z980 is indeed a RAWsumer!

DigitalCameraReview has posted their Kodak Easyshare Z980 review, and there they verify for good that the camera does indeed have RAW capabilities. We were not 100% sure before, but now that it has been officially verified, we welcome the Z980 to the world of RAWsumers.

Sadly, it is only the third RAWsumer of this year, and we are already in June, with over 110 new cameras launched from the major manufacturers already.

Rytterfalk plays with Casio EX-F1

Foveonesque Carl Rytterfalk has just posted a couple of sample videos taken with the Casio EX-F1, showing its magic slow-mo video mode and things like that. Video is not RAWsumer, but the EX-F1 is a RAWsumer, so that's how we justify sneaking this one in :-)
