Fuji S100fs down to $505 after rebate

If you have the "hots" for the Fuji S100fs, that giant prosumer with the 11mp 2/3" sensor and 28-400mm lens, there is more temptation today. The price at Amazon has dropped to $505 after rebate. The rebate is a $50 mail-in rebate from Fuji, sent to their New Castle, Delaware rebate processing address.

This is sold and shipped by Amazon itself, not by any of the many third party sellers that are doing business there as well. For more on this "giant-sumer", be sure to check its list of reviews.

Part #2 of P6000 vs LX3 vs G10 pocket-cam quest at TwiP Photo

Part #2 of the quest for pocket-cam RAWsumer at TwiP Photo has been posted. Be sure to read through the second half of the article for the meat and potatoes part of the comparison which have some great and practical information. The first-half of the part is a little too "emo" :)

If you haven't read Part #1 yet, be sure to start there, and read some of our thoughts.

Nikon P6000 vs Panasonic LX3 (pocketable edition)

A rather strange Nikon P6000 vs Panasonic LX3 comparison is part of a new comparison series at TWiP Photo. The photographer who wrote this is thrilled with the LX3 pictures, but is not picking the LX3.

Strange because the #1 priority so far seems to be ...pocketability. Perhaps the article should have been framed (titled and introduced) in a way that better reflects the angle the reviewer is approaching this comparison from? In other words, something like "Quest for best pocketable serious compact" as opposed to a general-purpose comparison.

Also adding to the strangeness is that the Canon G10 is mentioned but in a rather cryptic fashion, the Nikon P6000 is (mis)spelled three times as "6000P", and it is declared the winner ...in the teaser for the next installment.

This may be a new comparative-review sub-genre, an "emo-review" :-)

Olympus SP-565uz review at Pho Blog

The Olympus SP-565uz is a RAWsumer, and a RAWzoomer too, and it has been flying under the radar as most people pay more attention to the Canon SX10-IS (and SX1-IS where available) and the Panasonic FZ28.

But now the SP-565uz is getting the spotlight as it receives a review at Photography Blog. This is a six-page review using their standard format, with conclusions on page #6, which we won't reveal as usual.

New Panasonic LX3 review by DPI

It looks like this is turning into a RAWsumer review week [see more]! The latest to post a RAWsumer-review is DPInterface which tested the Panasonic LX3. As always, no spoilers here, but if you are impatient, you can jump to the bottom of the page for the conclusions along with the pros and cons list.

For more on the LX3, be sure to check the list of reviews so far, as well as the LX3 diary.

The best price at the moment is $400 for the silver model (LX3S) at J&R World, while the black model (LX3K) is out of stock at some popular retailers. The lowest in-stock prices at Amazon, offered by reputable 3rd party sellers is around $450.

Panasonic FZ28 review at Imaging Resource

Imaging Resource has been busy today! Apart from a DSLR review, they also posted a RAWsumer review, of the Panasonic FZ28 RAWzoomer. This of course has a 1/2.5" sensor, so you can't expect miracles out of RAW, but of course RAW is always better than no RAW :-)

For more reviews of the FZ28, be sure to check the Compact Review Organizer.

RAWsumer Review Lists integrated in Review Organizer

We have just integrated all the reviews that were hosted here at RAWsumer, into the Compact Cameras Review Organizer at the main blog (shortcut url: noisyreviews.com). This makes the review-lists more reader-friendly, as you can now jump from review-list to review-list using the same interface, and having a single point of reference.

And for your RAWsumer convenience, we have just updated the list in the middle column that points you directly to the list of RAWsumer reviews. You can see it under the title "RAWsumer Review Lists (in Review Organizer)".

More reviews of current and past RAWsumers will be added in the next few weeks and months. If you have any cameras you would like to see added first, let us know so we can increase their priority.

Please note that we don't have a list for the Sigma DP2 because it's not released yet, and no one has posted a review or even a first-impressions preview as far as we know.

New Nikon P6000 review by Photo Induced

Hot on the heels of their G10 review, Photo Induced has just posted their review of the Coolpix P6000. PI's review mentions the quasi-RAW format, but they do not seem to consider it a big issue. They also contrast to the G10 in their review, and their findings may surprise you a little bit.

And speaking of the P6000, it was reviewed a couple of days ago by DC-Resource, which we mentioned on Saturday.

The best prices for these two cameras are:
+ Canon G10: $410 with free shipping at Amazon
+ Nikon P6000: $360 with a free 4gb SDHC card at BuyDig.com.

Nikon P6000 gets reviewed by DCResource

The quasi-RAWsumer Nikon P6000 has received a review by DCResource. As usual, there are plenty of tests and evaluations in typical DCR fashion. The conclusions are at the bottom of the page, and gives a fair and balanced view of the camera. The RAW issue is mentioned prominently.

RAW issue of course being the fact that Nikon offers RAW but using a rather obscure (for Nikonians) RAW format making it an exercise in frustration (at best) to use it as part of an already existing Nikon workflow. That's what you get when you partner with Microsoft ;-)

The best prices at the moment among the retailers we track are $360 at Adorama and B&H Photo. Same price but also a bonus 4gb SD card at BuyDig.com

Panasonic FX150 gets a new review!

One RAWsumer we haven't been talking about a lot, partly because of its less-than-LX3 feature set, and partly because it has a silly 15-megapixel sensor is the Panasonic FX150. But the camera has RAW, so it is automatically a RAWsumer, so we have to talk about it eventually :-)

With that as a long preface, there is a brand new review of this camera posted at the Photography Blog. This is their standard six-page review format with the conclusions on page #6.

A quick check shows the lowest price on this camera is $294 at Amazon for the more popular K-version (black finish, aka FX150K).

Panasonic FZ28 co-champion of dpreview group test

The Panasonic FZ28 was the co-champion of the dpreview super-zoom group test that was just posted. A total of seven cameras were included in the test, two of which were RAWsumers (the FZ28 and the Olympus SP565uz). The SP565uz finished a clear 3rd with a "recommended". So it pays to have RAW - they won two of the top three spots :)

RAWsumer is now integrated in Main blog domain

We have just integrated the RAWsumer blog into the Main blog. There may be some temporary turbulance until all the internet servers are updated, but it should all be sorted out in a few hours. This re-organization gives us more flexibility since we now don't have to run RAWsumer as an independent blog, but rather as part of the whole noise-fest.

The good news is that all your previous bookmarks and links will continue to work as usual. This is because both Blogger/Blogspot and GoDaddy forward individual urls to their new destination directly. Some other services and domain-registrars forward all urls to the home page instead of the individual pages.

The new address for this blog is rawsumer.1001noisycameras.com (permalink).

RAWsumers in the top sellers at MAP Camera

Digitalcamera.jp (computer-translated) has posted their December 2008 top selling digital cameras at MAP Camera. MAP is a store for photography-enthusiasts, so it's not representative of the "average consumer" sales. It's like a store created for dpreview forum users :-)

There are three RAWsumers in the top ten, with the other seven spots filled by DSLRs of course. The three RAWsumers are the adorable Ricoh GRD II, and the fighting duo of LX3 and G10.

In the Used Cameras top 20, we find four RAWsumers, and all but one of the remaining cameras are DSLRs. The four RAWsumers are the Canon G9 (at #10), followed by the two Ricoh GR-D models, and of course the Foveonesque Sigma DP1. DP2 where are you? :)

If you are waiting for the Sigma DP2 camera, the wait continues, but if you are interested in the book, it is available for pre-order at Amazon for $10.36 with an estimated publication date of March 3, 2009.

On the camera front, while still not available for pre-order, the Sigma DP2 is listed at the B&H Photo site but without a price, or release date or option to pre-order. However, the detailed specs are available :-) Patience is a testable virtue when it comes to Sigma release dates :-(
